Sony's Concord Decision will Haunt the Masses, and it, through Prime Video's Secret Level

Like running into an ex at a party you both hoped neither would show up to...

Prime Video was keeping up with the Marvel Joneses overnight, dropping the latest sizzle video for its forthcoming videogame-based anthology series, Secret Level.

Secret Level, from the team(s) behind the award-winning and incredible Love, Death + Robots is a similar boot with animated shorts inspired by some of the biggest and most beloved games -- and gaming franchises -- ever. It also, however, had an eye to a handful of new-ish titles, with one such being the now-cancelled Concord. Concord was unceremoniously taken "offline" back in September due to a lack of player uptick and overall engagement or fanfare, with news coming later that its developer, Firewalk Studios, despite holding high-hopes its hero shooter and ambition could be salvaged, was also shuttered in one of the quickest closures of IP and team of this magnitude in recent history.

The estimated cost of Concord is rumoured to have been around the $400 million USD mark, though that number has never been confirmed.

Check out said "sizzle video":

Seeing Concord's name in the list of games Secret Level features inspired stories from is a reminder that nothing is safe in the current gaming landscape and that money, despite ruling most decisions, is also almost meaningless (if we're to get deep on it and breakdown even this element's seemingly posthumous existence). It'll be even sadder if it winds up being that one spark Firewalk might have needed to ignite more people to its game.

One thing's for sure, it'll also be a reminder to the higher-ups at Sony, at least for a little while, about an IP potentially squandered too early. (Though, this is the videogame industry which is sometimes like the WWE in terms of characters or storylines coming back from the dead -- never say never.)

Secret Level premiers on Prime this coming December 10 and features stories from such IP as Warhammer 40KThe Outer Worlds and Mega Man (to highlight its diversity), among many others.
