Sony's Heavily Spruiked Shooter, Concord, is Going Offline

After a flashy trailer worthy of a place alongside a Guardians of the Galaxy movie, Concord is already being put out to some sort of pasture

Concord, the hero shooter with a very, very familiar look and feel, has apparently underwhelmed so much that Sony and developer Firewalk Studios have decided to take the game offline to "explore options, including those that will better reach our players", as stated by Firewalk's game director, Ryan Ellis, in a post over at the PlayStation Blog.

While most of the post seems to suggest the game isn't dead yet, it still appears dead in the water and against Sony's curiously up and down notions behind live service, there's no real guarantee it'll ever make it back to shore in one piece. It might also be among the quickest of games of this magnitude to come and go lickity split like.

While many qualities of the experience resonated with players, we also recognize that other aspects of the game and our initial launch didn’t land the way we’d intended. Therefore, at this time, we have decided to take the game offline beginning September 6, 2024, and explore options, including those that will better reach our players.

A full refund has been promised across all platforms the game was purchased from, and anyone who bought a physical copy of the game will need to work with the retailer it was purchased from to get your refund.

No sales of the game will be available from here on out and the game won't be playable until further notice.

Concord was released just two weeks ago, but with dwindling numbers, middling impressions and an apparent lack of cutthrough it might no longer see a Freegunner doing what a Freegunner does ever again. It's failure to launch is in stark contrast to the success of Helldivers 2 which definitely points to other factors at (lack of) play.
