Trawler's Wake is Eldritch Fishing with a Bit of Sam Raimi Attitude
Dredge has a lot to answer for, in particular through the boom in Lovecraftian or Eldritch-inspired fishing titles. While Dredge remained an adventure and full story, the likes of the upcoming Dreadmoor and today's highlight, Trawler's Wake, are taking their spins more into 'sim' territory and, honestly, we're okay with that. In particular because these latest also look to be coming in with a bit more attitude and humour over any of the looming dread and unease Black Salt Games' brilliant title offered.
And with Trawler's Wake, we're also seeing a bit of Sam Raimi in proceedings, particularly in his joints involving a certain character named Ash. Spy for yourself:
What we're also in love with here is the idea that all (or some) of your catch will have things to say and that you can converse with them, which could hopefully open up each fishing jaunt into realms of unique comedy and isolated adventure. But the concern is repeat lines and gags given the title's indie nature, but either way it still looks charming and unique.
You'll be able to upgrade, explore and do more, all while earning money for your hauls -- but we're also definitely hoping for a more unique hook than what the above has shown.
As of writing the developer is simply trying to garner as many Wishlists as possible with no plans to look into consoles yet, but the game is starting to make some waves, so do yourself a favour and add to the growing number so it sees the finish line, and maybe jump into the Steam Community chat for the game with some gag recommendations yourself, just to you know, give them a hand.
