Is Nintendo Preparing to Wow with Further Zelda Remake News in the Form of Majora's Mask?
Given this year marks 40 years of The Legend of Zelda as a series, content from within its vast library was always going unmask itself. But with the official and stunning-looking Ocarina of Time Remake just around the corner, with proven tech, that hasn't stopped speculation about the original game's sequel, Majora's Mask, also coming to the fray beyond the current celebratory elements around icons, collectable cards and the forthcoming October 9 Majora's Mask soundtrack hitting Nintendo Music (something we own on CD -- *flex*). Naturally, for Nintendo all hands are on Deku Deck with the GTA VI combatant, Ocarina of Time, but we know the company's track record a bit better these days and Nintendo tends to operate with purpose.
So, we think there's a bit more going on with everyone's favourite, creepiest Zelda title, especially on the 'Remake' front
Plus, it would make sense to have been working on such an endeavour, given MM is a direct sequel to OoT with the development folklore section of this series in particular also pointing to the idea we were always meant to get this specific timeline in a trilogy (which allegedly was what that infamous SpaceWorld 2000 demo was plucked from, or the beginning of before Wind Waker took hold). So, naturally, every Zelda fan and their pug is now suggesting there's a genuine third entry in the works surrounding "the hero of time" that would replace or usurp any current plans for a third entry in the modern Zelda timelines consisting of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.
All of which is a lot to take in, hope for and sit patiently and also potentially wait for.
And never forget, as we've mused over before (don't mind the bits we got wrong), Nintendo is no stranger to revisiting its past, if it makes sense and, we suspect, the forthcoming movie will draw from all Zelda tales to date but will likely lean most into the OoT timeline as that is the single most established, known and celebrated. So rounding out that storyline in videogame form alongside the movie, while production continues in earnest on the third true open-world entry to finish up the BotW and TotK timeline, well... it just makes the most sense. At the very least, we reckon there's no way we don't see Majora's Mask with the same sheen as November's Ocarina of Time, some time early into 2027.
Watch this space.
