Free Next-Gen Update Coming to Metro Redux Owners
Whether you own Metro 2033 Redux or Metro Last Light Redux, 4A Games has you covered with a free next-gen update, dropping this month (October). The update takes advantage of the newer console hardware and the mammoth PC advances from the past few years, covering performance, frame-rate, visual enhancements, haptic feedback in controllers, audio and more.
This news comes alongside the studio celebrating the series having sold more than 50 million copies to date across all platforms and iterations, with the next instalment coming in February of 2027, with the studio still developing from Ukraine amidst Russia's full-scale invasion of the country, as well as from its sub studio in Malta (you can donate to Ukraine's efforts here). This free update for owners is great, but for anyone wanting to jump into the award-winning and critically acclaimed series ahead of Metro 2039, you're going to get the best version of events (we can only hope there's also something on the way for Metro Exodus as well -- our personal favourite in the opening trilogy).
The nitty gritty of these updates includes for console:
- True 4K at 60FPS, or upscaled 4K at 120FPS for both PS5 and Xbox Series X|S (native support for those consoles)
- For PlayStation there's also PSSR support for PS5 Pro and Adaptive Triggers for DualSense Controllers
- For Xbox we'll see TSR upscaling and anti-aliasing support for the Series X while its controllers will get Impulse Triggers
- The PCMA will get uncapped frame-rates at 4K with DLSS and Spatial Audio support
Bug fixes and quality of life tweaks will also feature for each platform inside the update with 4A saying it will share patch-notes at release. PC players will get this update on October 22, while console players wait a week and get theirs on October 29.
We've also nabbed a number of official screens from the update that you can check out in our carousel below.
