11 Years on, The Witcher 3 is Still Surprising Us - New Content and Remaster Announced

As had been rumoured for some time, the 11-year-old The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is getting new content. An entire expansion, actually.

And if "Songs of the Past" is anything like the original release's final content drop, "Blood and Wine" from all the way back in 2016 , we're in for hours upon hours of the White Wolf doing his thing again, only apparently this will also be Geralt's last hoorah with the new expansion also seeming to serve as a bridge between his adventures and Ciri taking over the unheralded mantle of witcher moving forward, specifically in The Witcher 4.

The new expansion is slated for "2027", which comes off the back of a recent update from within CD Projekt RED itself that said the studio is "targeting 2028" for release of Ciri's first standalone adventure.

Never one not to attempt to line all its leshys in a row, the RPG giant also revealed a new remaster for the original The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, releasing for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S this September 29, with a native remaster also releasing for Nintendo Switch 2 on the same day. CDPR has also officially aligned with Blizzard Studios' Battle.net for all of the above (including a special Geralt-inspired skin for Diablo IV), in a partnership that looks to only expand from here. 

And if that wasn't enough overall, any old or fresh owners of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt who never ponied up or haven't experienced the OG's two expansions, "Hearts of Stone" and the earlier-mentioned Blood and Wine -- a release this team's original stomping ground referred to as "arguably the greatest vampire lore ever created" -- can enjoy both for free starting now.

That's honestly a lot and means we'll be living in the world of The Witcher for at least the next two-to-three years and no one should be unhappy about that.
