Star Wars Outlaws Now Available via Steam, Title Update 1.4.0 and the Wild Card DLC Also Released

Been looking for a reason to jump back into Star Wars Outlaws? Everything below might just be the droid(s) you're looking for...

Boy, the games are just gonna start coming in thicker and faster. And if it isn’t the games, it’s new content for existing games. Or updates. Or in the case of Star Wars Outlaws, a mixture of all of the above.

While technically available on PC to-date via Ubisoft Connect, the Epic Game Store and Amazon Luna, its arrival on Steam (at a very nice 25% off) completes the Master Race sweep for the game which has also had a new title update added with myriad fixes, tweaks and additions, alongside the availability of the game’s first major story DLC -- Star Wars Outlaws: Wild Card.

Pull up a seat:

If you missed it, we reviewed Star Wars Outlaws back in September, writing that the Scoundrel’s tale “is championed brilliantly in Outlaws”, while also acknowledging that it was in need of “[more] technical work for a smoother experience”, among many other woes. (Incidentally, it was the first major review written for 3rd-Phase Boss.) In the wake of ours and many others’ reviews as well as community feedback, Ubisoft went and did the right thing by acknowledging the experience was in need of love, asked for a Hydrospanner and got to work, resulting in TU1.4.0 which is available now if your droid hasn’t already applied it to your platform of choice for you. Key parts of the update include (officially from Ubi):

  • Notable updates to stealth and combat that allow players greater choice in how they approach each quest including using stealth or reaching for their blaster, even in syndicate territories in cities.
  • Enemy AI and detection improvements, with players being notified when they’re being detected and can choose to escalate or change tactics to remain in stealth. Enemies will also now be more tactical as they use cover and seek better combat lines.
  • Enemy weak points have been added to reward strategic gameplay, which if targeted can trigger explosions or give players a way to defeat enemies in spectacular new ways.
  • Re-tuned Kay’s blaster and pickup weapons to improve the combat experience, including being able to carry two handed weapons in more situations including using ladders or grapple points.
  • Animations in dialogue scenes, the option to toggle off the cinematic lens, the visibility of distant lights and much more have been added to improve the experience across the galaxy.

But don’t take our word for it, here’s the team revealing in moving image detail much of the above (you can also see the full patch notes here):

Finally, on that Wild Card DLC, we get to not only visit a casino starship, but we get to grift in it alongside ND-5 and Lando Calrission, amidst a host of new characters in a quest truly befitting Kay’s abilities and exploits. We’ll do a small write-up on it for those without the Season Pass looking to maybe see if it’s worth the AU$22.95 SRP Ubi has stickered on it, so stay tuned.
