Rue the Decision(s), Day to Day, to Day, to Day, to Day...
If our header has some sense of familiarity to it, chances are you don't mind groundhogs named Punxsutawney Phil, a bit of repetition in your life and a Bill Murray joint, or two, or three, or two, or three... yeah, yeah we know, you get it.
It's Groundhog Day come to games, again.
Rue Valley, however, pairs closer to the source 'time-loop' genre and, outside of having anything to do with Murray or that movie in particular (a collective favourite of ours here), its incredible art style also grabbed us, as well as its overall presentation.
Here, stick this on loop and see why:
Rue Valley is a deeply personal narrative game about a man’s journey of self-discovery and resilience on his quest to break free from a mysterious time loop. Each day feels like an uphill battle against the shadows of your own mind. Along the way, you will encounter a captivating ensemble of characters, each wrestling with their own emotional complexities and revealing hidden depths as you get to know them.
Now heading into 'Open Alpha', available to grab here, Rue Valley is a multilayered game that builds a narrative experience around your character and the creation and decision traits you throw at them, and then how you manage that against the game's mystery, which has seen the playspace that is Rue Valley trapped in a tormentous time-loop you must solve. Those traits and character builds and your decisions, however, will have a lasting impact on getting to the bottom of it all.
We've already mentioned the art-style, which takes massive cues from Into the Spider-Verse (and so many others now), while the overall presentation of the game is one of chaos and haphazardness, despite the day repeating itself over and over.
Do you have what it takes to out-Murray Murray?
Grab the alpha now and see, and take a look at a number of screens from the game in our carousel below. The full game is set to release sometime in 2025. Stay tuned for more as we have it.
