Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days is Getting a PC Demo Late October
If you're not across this franchise from our friends across the Tasman, PikPok, then Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days looks to be a pretty stellar starting point. Originally released as an endless runner back in 2012, the series has gone through three iterations with the sequel firming as an action title full of narrative moments and lots of side quests to help flesh out the world. This newest entry, though, is a highly polished 2.5D side-scrolling survival horror that takes elements from shelter survival games, action games on the same plane and, of course, zombie games.
The game was shown at Gamescom to great fanfare, and now the studio has announced that a demo will be available on Steam from October 28 (likely 29 in ANZ) ahead of its Early Access launch in 2025. Check out the demo trailer:

As the undead overrun the city of Walton, Texas in 1980, those trapped within the city limits must work together to overcome ever-present dangers and ever-dwindling resources. Explore the city to scavenge for food and tools to stay alive, then return to base to manage survivors’ needs. Carve a path through Walton, guiding survivors from shelter to shelter and inching closer to an escape from the unfolding apocalypse.
Move through abandoned locations and eerie streets amid the tense and unsettling atmosphere of the richly immersive set design, crafted lighting, and evocative audio. The creak of floorboards, the moaning anguish of the infected, and the blood-curdling screams when scavenging efforts are cut short by an unfortunate misstep...
Plan your escape from the city, with multiple leads to follow. Encounter and recruit survivors, each with unique positive and negative traits that impact how you play. As the city’s fate worsens and the number of undead increases, desperation drives Walton’s living citizens to actions once considered unthinkable. And when push comes to shove, engage in brutal combat using an array of scavenged melee and ranged weapons.
Just when in 2025 the game releases is still an unknown, but based on the trailer above, the screens in our image carousel below and the confidence of this team (who incidentally made one of our favourite iPad games in Super Monsters Ate My Condo), we'd hope it's in the early part. Stay tuned for more on this potential gem as we have it.
