I Hate This Place - You'll Love it! (New Gameplay Trailer all but Guarantees it)
When you're working with a brand whose biggest entities are The Walking Dead and Invincible, because that brand -- Skybound Entertainment -- was also co-founded by co-creator of those IPs, Robert Kirkman, you're probably onto a winner with your own creative endeavour. Which just so happens to be the case with I Hate This Place -- an isometric survival horror title wrapped in a lively comic book aesthetic, all set within and around what made 80s horror so good; take a visual tour of the pulp grotesque for yourself...
The game itself is inspired by the graphic novels of the same name, which was also part of Skybound Entertainment and Image's stables back in the day (it was nominated for an Eisner!), and if you ever read any or all of those, you'll know we're in for something akin to Skinwalker Ranch meets The Evil Dead, with every possible scary and campy trope of its celebrated era in tow and in between.
Players take on the role of Elena whose fight for survival begins when she and her friend unwittingly summon a malevolent force. Outmatched and hunted in a hostile world, players will need to stay vigilant, loot their surroundings and pick their battles carefully against formidable foes, many of which hunt you on sound alone.
The comics were a kind of weird "what if Skinwalker Ranch met The Evil Dead(s) and blossomed from there. This iteration is more inspired by those original tales but takes the lore and nature of things seriously, which includes the above-teased sound being a major elements alongside a dynamic day and night cycle, intermittent domociles for protection during scavenging jaunts and the need to upkeep it all as well as, you know, your own health.
Crafting will play a key role, as will stealth and just basically picking your battles, spots and all of those types of things to survive the twisted horrors of this place.
We'll hopefully have more on this one soon, so stay tuned. In the meantime, Wishlist it on Steam here and have a look at our screenshot carousel below!
