Superman and Batman Comics Fetch More than Four Times their Auction Price in the UK
A pair of original DC titles from its two most popular characters -- Superman and Batman -- of ye olde timey stock have sold at an auction in the UK for incredible sums against their initial asking prices, and gradings. The Superman book, #1, mind, only had a CGC grade of 1.8 (10 being the highest), meaning the Aussie who purchased it was getting a lower-rung item in terms of quality, but against its age the final selling price of $189,089 dollarydoos is still impressive. Especially considering its starting price was £20,000 (AUD $38603.32).
Meanwhile, the Batman comic that sold was also a #1 (one of the rarest in the world), and was graded at 3.0. Bidding for it started at just £5000 but through a strong purchaser war wound up leaving auction at just over AUD $60,000 ($60558.95 to be precise at time of writing).
So, despite the world's inflation issues, economic woes in general and even the grading of these old books, it seems like the so-called 'Collector's Market' isn't going anywhere any time soon. Now, to track down the Aussie who picked up the Supes rarity and become teir best friend.
