First Look at The Punisher: One Last Kill Co-Written and Produced by Jon Bernthal
We've just been handed our first proper look at The Punisher: One Last Kill, a revisit to the character actor Jon Bernthal portrayed so well in cameo form in Netflix's Daredevil series way back when. So much so that an entire show was produced around The Punisher to critical acclaim. Bernthal, while enjoying the role, famously refused, however, to reprise Frank in cameo form again in Disney's effectively reboot series, Daredevil: Born Again. Citing a lack of understanding of Frank and his motivations and demons from the writers, it appeared Bernthal's iconic run as the vigilante was dead and buried, somewhere out in an endless desert.
Now, however, an about face sees him reprising the role, as co-written and produced by him, for Marvel Television and boy, does it look the goods. Take a squiz below...
PTSD mental and emotional anguish look to be playing a big part in this revisit, which we're here for, and so far it's looking pretty special. The idea of it being billed as a "special presentation" does give us some pause though, as if this is more a standalone non-canon farewell for fans with Bernthal at the helm of the character, but we might be reaching, it could simply be that this was born from a space not initially planned within Marvel's TV roadmap and thus it's therefore special.
Whichever way it panned out, we're not upset because this looks as good as you'd hope from such a divisive and dark character as Frank, given the modern world in which we live, which also feels a bit like how Bernthal felt, too.
Now if only the Netflix peeps had listened to Henry Cavill and his concerns over the handling of Geralt and the broader The Witcher universe.
Ah well.
The Punisher: One Last Kill airs on Disney+ from May 13, starting from 11am AEST.
