Are We Set to See Deadpool & Wolverine Streaming on Disney+ this October? UPDATED ANSWER: No!
UPDATE: We weren't *that* far off, but the much-talked about "89 day" theory has been sat aside again in favour of Disney just choosing what's right for it, and while Deadpool & Wolverine will hit Disney+ this year, it (clearly) is not the floated date below. Laregly because we're well past it now.
Rather, we'll be getting it officially on November 12, some 19 days out from our posited and hopeful drop date. Either way, we're just happy it's happening this year.
ORIGINAL POST: It's an odd one, but there's empirical evidence that Disney tends to launch its movies on the Disney+ streaming platform some 89 days after their theatrical release. Not all, mind, but the likes of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and The Marvels among a few others tend to find themselves ready to air in our homes or on our mobile devices that specific number of days post-launch.
Why?
Honestly, we have no idea (one Redditor did posit that "89 is 12 weeks plus the 5 days between Friday theater release and Wednesday Disney+ release"). But, if there's a genuinely deliberate trend here, then based on the initial release date of Deadpool & Wolverine, which was July 25 (in Australia), then October 22 is when we *should* potentially be seeing the streaming launch of not only one of the biggest box office superhero movies ever, but also the highest grossing R18+ movie ever, and the very first Disney film rated R18+ hitting its own streaming platform.
Of course, most of this is wishful thinking, particularly because this writer still hasn't seen the damn thing and I really want to but am lazy and love my couch, so coming to Disney+ in maybe a few weeks suits my agenda just fine. At any rate, watch this space, and if the theory does wind up ringing true, it'll mean future releases will be fairly easy to work out moving forward in terms of their streaming debuts.
