WolfEye Unveils Next Game with Teaserrific Retro Future Screens
One of our favourite independent devs, WolfEye Studios, has finally unveiled its next project. Set to be a "first-person action-RPG" (likely read: immersive sim -- the studio's bread and butter), the 'Unnamed' game is only tipped as being the above, plus "retro sci-fi" in glory, leaving us to only blindly, ridiculously, pleadingly and hopefully ponder just what might be in store.
As noted above, this studio's bread and butter is the immersive sim; the likes of Arx Fatalis, Dark Messiah of Might and Magic (a hugely underrated game) as well as critically acclaimed numbers, Dishonored and Prey, all led by Raphael Colantonio, previously of Arkane Studios fame, before leaving the Bethesda shadow to forge his own studio, WolfEye. The team's first joint, Weird West, being both critically-acclaimed and revelatory in bringing such player-freedom to such a small plane while also just kind of being cool AF showed that Raph and co not only had the world in their sights, but had grander plans for it (and us) all.
“We are so happy to be able to officially confirm that our next game is actively in production and that it is a First Person Action RPG,” explained President and Creative Director, Raphael Colantonio (via press release). “Fans of the past games I have been involved with such as Dishonored and Prey will feel at home, as well as fans of RPGs in general. While we look for the right publishing partner, our sights are firmly set on getting our community involved with the game’s development with a limited private Alpha in 2025. We can not wait for fans to see what we are working on.”
This new gig, which we're told has wrapped pre-production and will be ready for Alpha in '2025' looks *potentially* like an amalgam of everything Raph and team have worked on over the years, but then when we consider Weird West and what it brought... well, that might not actually be the best-laid plan to lead on, as far as assumptions go.
Not matter which, we're all in!
Check out the screens below and let us know what you'd want to see from this ultra-talented studio with 'unnamed retro-sci-fi first-person action-rpg probable imm-sim' as its DNA.
Oh, and go here to try and be one of the very few who gets to jump into the limited Alpha.
