Updated Red Dead Redemption Set for New Platforms Debut
Arguably one of the greatest open-world games of the past 15 years, Red Dead Redemption, has seen its fair share of re-releases, but nothing quite to the level Rockstar revealed today.
Landing on iOS and Android, John Marston will now be playable for mobile devices with mobile-friendly controls while Netflix subscribers will also get access to the games through that platforms gaming option, offering up the heralded experience to entirely new audiences.
Current-gen consoles are also in the mix with free upgrades for owners of the games on previous-gen, as well as save data transfer from old to new for PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2. The upgrade includes 4K, HDR and 60fps for both PS5 and Xbox Series X|S with "enhanced image quality" while the Switch 2 gets support for DLSS, HDR and mouse controls, as well as 60fps. No word on whether we'll see it running in 4K on Nintendo's new machine, only that it will be at a "high resolution".
Both games will be released on all of the above from December 2. This news comes off the back of a recent readjustment to GTA VI's release date which will now see the game releasing in just over a year from now -- November 19, 2026. Additionally, the rumour mill suggests that pre-production has begun on Red Dead Redemption 3, which if true means all cylinders ate Rockstar are now firing in full. Here's hoping that somewhere the studio can also fit in the much-wanted re-release of Red Dead Redemption 2 for current-gen machines.
