Red Band-ish Trailer for Dying Light: The Beast is why we Love Techland

"That's how nightmares are made..."

Weve always had a love for both Techland and Dying Light. The parkour elements that initially separated the franchise from other zombie titles faded as a buzzword and the entire makeup of Techland's vision and its design philosophies took over as the key differentiator. Not in a bad way, rather it simply became apparent Dying Light was just always it's own... beast.

From our time at AusGamers reviewing the first game through to in-depth chats with key design personel to sitting here now on this platform, bloodily champing at the bit for the standalone, Dying Light: The Beast, we've been in awe of the visceral nature of how the studio has always handled itself. The game-world(s), your movement through it, the dual nature of risk and reward with day and night, and all of its mature storytelling. But this upcoming joint... it feels like something has been unleashed within the studio -- something primal.

Have a look at this latest "Blood & Guts" trailer (at your own discretion) to see for yourself what we mean.

The impressive thing here? Well, Dying Light has always just been brutal in its own right. But to now take things to new heights kind of feels evolutionary -- a zombie apocalyopse would never be clean, but living through it as a persistent scourge would just be... well, this. (Plus all the, you know, beastie stuff coming out in the game's equally brutal narrative.)

If you've been hiding from said scourge and just ignoring things, Dying Light: The Beast (mode) is the following:

Become Kyle Crane, a unique hero with DNA of a survivor... and a beast.

Switch between two playstyles and experience a fierce inner conflict  between man and monster, leading to the ultimate embrace of unstoppable strength.

For those not in the know, Kyle was the first game's protagonist, and an all-round good guy, so to not only have his plight continue to play out here, but to also see that "good guy" reputation tested, and seemingly torn asunder, is another very enticing element of this standalone release.

Want more? How about 30-odd minutes of gameplay from the studio:

We're anxiously awaiting Techland's long-promised high-fantasy action-RPG but will also never tire of the Dying Light franchise. You can grab this blood-fueled chapter on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X September 19. Check out a bunch of screens related to all of the above in our carousel below.
