DREDGE Developer Announces Production on a Brand New IP, Opens New Studio
Black Salt Games, the New Zealand-based studio behind Indie hit and one of our favourites, DREDGE, has announced it has opened a second development studio, Disc 2 Games, and that both studios are hard at work on brand new IP and game experiences, not related to the breakout eldritch fishing title.
Disc 2 Games was actually co-formed at the start of development of DREDGE by Nadia Thorne who also served as producer on Black Salt's dark fishing sojourn. As production has wound up on DREDGE and with Disc 2 Games sharing the same creative space in Christchurch, the studios have come together under the one creative umbrella, while still working on separate projects with Disc 2 Games' first title "for a bit over a year".
"We've taken DREDGE as far as we can technically -- especially while continuing to support players on previou-gen consoles," Thorne said via press release. "It's time to turn our atttention to something new.
Our media blast confirms both games in development are "new, original titles" with Black Salt Games' next effort still maintaining a focus on "atmosphere, intrigue and surprising mechanics" albeit now in "a brand new world". No other details have emerged other than the studio has entered pre-production. However, as stated above, Disc 2 Games' debut title has been in development for a while and is described by creative director Johannes Otte as a game that "initially welcomes players with a bright, stylish and fun facade. However, beneath this polished surface lies a gritty world, waiting for players to immerse themselves in and join our characters in rebelling against".
"It's a fusion of ideas that we think work well together," added technical director, Kris Nicholson. "We're really excited to share more about it soon."
