Rebellion's Fallout-ish-Like, Atomfall, Gets a Release Date and a Menacing New Trailer

Red telephone in the wicker guild...

Actually, we'll be honest -- it's a bit hard yet to proclaim this a full-on Fallout-ish-like. After all Bethesda has no legal stranglehold on post-apocalyptia, but the initial read from the game's original teaser definitely gave many that vibe.

Today, however, developer-publisher Rebellion has treated us to a slightly different skew, which might have Atomfall even closer to Dying Light 2 than any other post-societal fall type of setting. But then there's that bloody red telephone. Go on, answer the call and give us your take on what's on the other line:

The pertinent info, from answering the phone, is that we'll see the game on PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S this coming March 27, 2025. We do have a bit more information as well, which can help shape the narrative direction of the game, but at its core it is a "single player survival-action game" set after the events (important) of a "nuclear disaster" (also important).

Apparent parts of the immediate world around you have been living in isolation, forging unique, near-paganistic societies you now must confront, or be confronted by. We're led to believe the game, similar to the Dying Light series, will focus more on melee and hand-to-hand combat over a more traditional shooter setup, though marksmanship will still play a hand in combat proceedings.

Atomfall tasks players with solving the mystery of what happened at the Windscale nuclear power station. To solve this, you will need to  navigate military encampments, delve through abandoned bunkers  below ground, and risk your life in Pagan ruins. Central to the dark mystery are the host of eccentric characters and cryptic organisations that inhabit the quarantine zone. These individuals have been cut off from the outside world for years and left to their own devices, so are anything but normal. But be careful, they aren’t all friendly and you will need to get to grips with an array of ranged and melee weapons if you are to survive!

No matter its potential influences, it looks and sounds interesting at the very least and we can't stop thinking about what the phone has to do with it all.

We'll know more soon enough, so stay tuned, and check out a handful of images from the new release date announcement below.
