Elder Scrolls Online's Massive PVP Update is Now Available on All Platforms

The Elder Scrolls Online's PVP Battlegrounds mode just got a big overhaul in the game's latest update.

Bethesda has updated its long-running MMO, The Elder Scrolls Online, with Update 44 now available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. The update was previously made available to PC and Mac players on October 28.

So, what’s new? Well, this update is a big one for ESO’s multiplayer PVP Battlegrounds mode. Battlegrounds is switching from three-sided, fast-paced combat matches to two-sided PVP matches. With the new update, Battlegrounds players will choose between two options - 4v4 and 8v8.

The new two-sided format includes seven new maps to battle on, revamping the mode for the foreseeable future. Bethesda notes that the traditional 4v4v4 Battleground mode will no longer be available; however, it might return in the future for “special mini-PVP events.”

To celebrate the new Battlegrounds, Bethesda is teaming up with content creator SypherPK and Alienware for a special ESO Battlegrounds Brawl livestream at twitch.tv/bethesda at 12:30 pm ET on November 20 - with Twitch drops and other prizes up for grabs. Unfortunately, Aussies will need to wake up early (or not sleep) to watch the stream on November 21 at 4:30 am.

Update 44 isn’t just about revamping the game’s PVP; it also introduces two brand-new Companions - Tanlorin and Zerith-var. Per Bethesda’s announcement, “Tanlorin is a scrappy High Elf who mixes Soul Magic with Dragonknight abilities, while the stoic Khajiit Zerith-var utilises the power of Necromancy.”

The Elder Scrolls Online has been going on strong for a decade now, and as someone who dips back in every other year to check out what’s new it’s great to see the team at ZeniMax Online Studios and Bethesda continually updating the game.
