Doom 2 with Full Ray Tracing is an incredible reimagining of id Software's iconic FPS

Doom 2 turns 30 this year, and it's not done wowing us. Thanks to a new ray tracing mod, it's one of the best-looking games on PC.

Doom 2 or Doom II was released in 1994 for PCs, single-handedly changing the course of PC gaming forever - ushering in the era of fast-paced first-person shooters that would define the late 1990s. It's a game that has also been re-released and remastered several times over the years. This new mod pairs GZDOOM with a UI overhaul, 3D Voxel characters, and full path-traced lighting.

The brand-new Doom 2: Ray Traced mod takes the 1994 original and presents it in a way that must be seen.

The above 4K gameplay was captured on a GeForce RTX 4090, the most powerful gaming GPU on the planet - and with cutting-edge ray tracing, this is Doom II like you've never seen it before. The Voxel characters maintain the 2D look of the original sprites, while realistic shadows and lighting add a new layer of immersion to the classic FPS.

If you're interested in trying this out for yourself (we recommend running it on a GeForce RTX-powered PC as the mod makes full use of DLSS to enhance performance), head to the official modDB page, which has download links and an installation guide.
