Diablo 4 Season 5 Start Date and Info on the New Roguelike Horde Mode Coming

Diablo IV's Season of the Infernal Horde begins on August 6 (or August 7 for those of us in Australia). It introduces a new roguelike horde mode to give players more to do before the big Vessel of Hatred expansion launch in October.

Diablo IV Season 5, the Season of the Infernal Horde, kicks off on August 6 at 10 am PT (August 7 at 3 am for Australians in the AEDT timezone). It’s the final season before Blizzard drops the first significant expansion for the game, which will continue the story laid out in the game’s campaign and introduce a new zone, class, and mechanics.

Even though the game's first expansion, Vessel of Hatred, is right around the corner that hasn’t stopped the team from deploying a new endgame mode called Infernal Hordes with Season 5. The wave-based mode can be tackled solo or in a group and is available on the Seasonal and non-seasonal Eternal Realms.

The roguelike aspect occurs between waves where players choose between three “Boons and Banes to augment the Infernal Hordes and crank up the intensity,” adding a dose of Hades into Sanctuary.

The mode also brings back bosses, the Fell Priests, from the iconic Diablo II to tackle. After it is over, players will spend the Burning Aether they pick up during each ‘run’ on special chests that will dish out the loot - from rare crafting materials to Legendary Items with highly sought-after Greater Affixes and even Unique Items.

Season of the Infernal Horde adds more than a new mode and activity. Over 50 new Legendary and Unique items are being added to the game, and Blizzard is overhauling and supercharging every single Unique Item in the game to make them more ‘build-defining.’ And speaking of Unique Items, the ultra-rare Mythic Uniques will now be a different colour (purple), making them more noticeable and exciting when they drop.

Full Patch Notes for the upcoming season are coming soon, where fans can expect hundreds of balance updates, class changes, fixes, and updates to sift through ahead of August 6.
